Pissed off with softbrake
Folks who choose to work on their own bikes really have to understand that assembly-order importance, patience, and imperfect part interchangeability goes hand-in-hand with H-D and its aftermarket (and its own OEM replacement parts too - at times). It is easy to get frustrated, but it is helpful to see these "challenges" for what they are: opportunities to use one's problem-solving and mechanical skills. On more occasions than I can recount, I have had to use those very attributes to work on my own bike and to help others to fix theirs - often on the side of the road.
Beer helps too.
On the other hand, many manufacturers could do a much better job, overall, in design and quality control of their parts and accessories. Almost all could do a better job on developing good, comprehensive, detailed instructions. Some are better than others. Some are much worse. Personally, my experience has shown Softbrake has been one of the better ones in the design/Manufacturing/quality control area. Documentation...so-so.
That said, I am not convinced any part of the country has more skilled or inept wrenches than any other area. Some folks whine, and some do not. I am fortunate to personally know many of the most skilled mechanics who reside in all areas of the country. On more than a few occasions, I have witnessed their skill. I have also met some of the biggest whiners, who, unfortunately, are also scattered throughout our great nation. I try my hardest to avoid them at all cost. Sometimes frustration can get to the best of us.
And for the record, while Colorado is in the western half of the country, and is closer to the "West Coast" then, say, New Jersey, it is definitely not West Coast. We Californians, Oregonians, Washingtonians, and Alaskans are the only one's who can truly call themselves "West Coasters."
End of geography lesson.
BTW: Colorado is a beautiful state!

Good Luck,

Everyone's skill level and the ability to improvise varies greatly. I have read threads on here about parts being total junk and not fitting right, when my experience has been the exact opposite. What seems very simple to some can be overwhelming to others.
