Default Looking to move up

I am a new rider, only been riding since June 2013. I bought a Sportster 883 thinking the smaller the better to learn on. I am now thinking of moving up to a softail.

Would this be a good idea? Will it be alot harder moving up to a bigger bike or once you can ride one you can pretty much ride them all?

Once you ride one bike you can ride them all. Have fun shopping!

Sportsters are great bikes. They are.

Moving to a Softail, you will get a lower center of gravity, the feeling of sitting IN the bike instead of ON the bike, a LOT more power. You'll get more room, too.

Bigger, heavier, yes. Something to be the least bit concerned about? Within a few miles, you'll be just fine. It won't take you long to adjust to a different bike.

If the weather's cooperating, take a test ride on a softail. Even a 20 mile scoot will tell you a lot - way more than asking a question on the forum, even when people are trying to give you honest and helpful commentary.

I have faith in you. The transition will be easy. It'll only take you short while to get acclimated to a new bike. Just take your time and find the right bike for you…..style, comfort and ride.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. I think I will head on down to my local dealership and demo ride a softail.

I agree as well. Started on a 1992 XLH 883, being a heavier guy I always felt top-heavy on my Sportster. Was comfortable, but always felt weird in the corners. Bought a FatBoy Lo, couldn't believe how easy a bike that was 300lbs heavier could handle compared to the sporty. Take one for a test ride and see how you feel

Go for it, you'll never look back. I can ride any bike, cept maybe the trike. Driving one of those is a really weird feeling.

Ride several different styles; think about how you intend to use your new bike; you will know it when you sit on it, feel it, and ride it. Good luck and have fun!!!
