I am looking for a new solo seat for my crossbones. I need something that gives me the most reach and sits me low. I like the look of the mustang tripper tuck and roll but I'm looking for suggestions. Let me here them, thanks.
Use a 1925 tractor solo spring seat in the place of your stock spring solo seat. And make sure it is mounted in the rearmost position. It will definitely get you 3-4 inches further back than you are now and an inch or so lower as well. For free you can make sure your stock seat is mounted in the rearmost position. Many are mounted in the forward position from the factory.
On my rocker, I put a Danny Gray with saddle gel...awesome. butt never hurts and lowered me about two inches. Make sure you get saddle gel...costs about seventy bucks, but it's the best bucks you ever spend. My brother went cheap and hates himself every time we go out riding. Check their website.
I bought the bike used and it didn't come with the spring seat. I really like the look of the Mustang Tuck and Roll. I'm just not sure of the position and the comfort of it.
Some of the answer depends on how good a shape your knees are in. I replaced the stock seat on my 08 Crossbones with a spare I had for my panhead(tractor seat). Those seats are the best for my butt and have put 1000's of miles on them. They sit you up a bit higher but are easier on the knees because of that height. Also ride better with the extra springs when on the straight stretches but not so great on tight curves because of the extra wiggle. One other draw back is you also catch a bunch more wind sitting up higher and I've got some apes so that doesn't help. I do have a Corbin seat I bought off ebay that's pretty comfortable and sits me lower in the bike. Less wind and better tight corner performance. The only problem is they are such jerks to deal with. I've used their seats for 30 years but the last one I bought from them wasn't what I ordered and their customer service sucks. Never did get what I wanted but their quality is awesome. I have one on my 80 FXWG and still looks great. Just my .02!
Originally I just bought 2" springs but still not low enough for me. Now I run 2" springs on a HD standard leather solo spring seat with 12" bars. My hands are level with my shoulders, I'm 5'11
Ditto here on corbin...I bought a great seat from them 10 years ago...BUT BE VERY CAREFUL NOW AND DO A SEARCH ON HERE...My brother (on my recommendation...) tried to buy a seat from the about 2 years ago. He called them, they said they could deliver the product and he paid them through his credit card (lucky he did that...). Then nothing came and no info from them at all...He then contacted them and they said they could not deliver the seat as contracted. They said they would give him a refund...NEVER CAME...call again...process to refund his hundreds of dollars again...nothing again for weeks...call again and threat of legal action and credit card company involvement and he finally got his refund 3 months later...some other folks have had similar or worse issues on here...Something is going on there...be careful
I have the Lepera Bare Bones solo on my Springer. It sits you low and back as far as any solo I have ever seen. It does lack some cushion and back support but it has never bothered me. I am 5'11" and have stock forward controls.
There is the option that is open to you and available to you that most people don't even think of and that is to get your stock seat reworked. I watched threads for 2 years before I made up my mind, I didn't want any part of buying 1, 2 or 3 seats before I found what I liked. I started a thread a while back called "Custome seats/Seat ****" where some of us had our own seats reworked and came out pretty damn happy about it too. I had 2" of the stock padding removed and replaced with 1" of "gelfoam" then covered in black and white to match my bike.
I have no more back and/or tailbone issues. It let me sit a tad lower and also moved me back a tad in the seat too. It cost me no more than a new seat would cost me but I got exactly what I wanted., I could follow the progress and I could have made changes mid seat too if I didn't like what I was seeing or how it felt when I sat on it but I didn't have too. It is one of my favorite mods and the multi-colord seat is like the "cherry on top" and sets the bike off very nicely too. Just my $0.02 and some food for thought.
I have a 2up seat that I am pretty comfortable with. I am looking for an additional solo seat when the lady isn't on the back. I went ahead and ordered the Mustang Tripper Tuck and Roll. I loved the look. Hopefully it's comfortable enough.
