Default Installing moustache engine guard...

I purchased a moustache engine guard off of a vendor on eBay. Yesterday, with the help of my son, I went to install it on my Fat Boy. It doesn't seem to line up with anything. Should the installation points on this thing not be obvious? I see the center point up front on the frame. If I line up the center hole on the engine guard with this, it doesn't line up with the frame lower down. If I line up the two side points with the frame, the center hole doesn't line up. I double checked the vendor's ad BEFORE I bid on this, and again yesterday, and he claimed it was for ALL '00 and later FL Softails. Is there a trick I'm missing? This thing came without any bolts, and was not in the original box, although the vendor claimed it was new. (It is spotless, so I don't doubt that part...) Am I doing something wrong, or have I gotten rooked? I hope I'm just overlooking the obvious, as I saved a ton over buying at the local HD dealer, but of course if I ended up with the wrong engine guard, I guess I haven't save myself a cent. Can anyone help me out? Thanks...

I have the HD mustache engine guard on my SoftailDeluxe that I installed myself. Very easy to install, it installed within 5 mins. All the holes lined up. I think you may have gotten duped!! Sorry but i suggest you try and get a refund or put very negative feedback on EBAY for your seller. Goodluck

I agree with everyone else....you got taken. My riding partner has the mustache bars and they install with no problem....might trying to see if your local HD dealer will swap them for the right ones...or you could line up the low part and drill a new center hole.

New to the forum but plenty of Ebay part experience. Ask for a part number!!!!!! If they can't provide it, pass on the item. For example, I was considering an exhaust system for which the lister stated would fit all softails from a certain year to present. I don't recall the specifics. He even had a picture of the label on the box. Problem was that while the part was "new and in the box" it was at least 4 years old. 4 years ago it may have fit all softails from whatever year till....... Fortunately, I asked for and received the HD part number and was able to verify that it would not fit my bike.

Sometimes it's hard to resist those ebay "deals"

Don is 100% on! Get a part number. When I was looking for rearfloorboards for my Fatboy everybodies fit that had them for sale. In reality they are pretty specialized.

He did have the part number listed. I just checked the ad again, and the part no. is #49155-05. I just doubled checked it against the HD Canada site, and it says this type is for all TOURING models, except the FLTR. I'm an idiot, and buddy is a BS'er. I have to touch base with him. Probably too late to do anything about it now. Already left positive feedback, and money is paid. (Bought it about a month ago...waited for spring thaw before getting bike home...) Maybe my local HD dealer will take pity on a fool. [:@]

To Harley you are not a touring model, that's your problem right there.

Go to a Harley store and get a parts book. You are a softail.

Sorry to hear this and I would just relist them with the correct info. You will probably get most if not all or more than what you paid.

Suggestion ... I have purchased numerour items from Ebay and I always have HD's website open in another browser window. I copy the PN listed and check it at their site to check fitment. Then compare the pics to see all parts are there or not....if I can tell.
