So I've managed to save up a few pennies to get some nice wheels. Unfortunately, not enough to get the Heartland 200 kit. I have a 2005 FXST with the skinny 150mm rear. The wheels I'm planning on getting are 18x5.5 with a 200mm tire. Question: has anybody cut off their horns and bolted on a 2008 and up inner strut and strut cover? If so the struts and bobtail fender can be had for about $300 compared to a $2200 for the Heartland kit.
I Have a complete rear fender and stock strus from an 08 Night train that needs a home. I browsed through the link that Shakey softail posted and it looks like he cut the 05 struts off and tapped the holes to mount an 06 and new rear fender on. Do some more research and PM me if you need parts. Here are some pics of what I have
Here is a pic of my rear frame section with a tape measure so you can get an idea and cross measure what you have to see if it may work
Again do some research and let me know if this will work for you. If you buy the parts and it doesn't work out they are yours to get rid of

That will definitely work out for me if I got this route. I'm doing some homework to make sure I can get this 18x5.5 in there with no problems. Thanks!

I am running a 18 X 5.5 on mine with the rsd render kit. the shop I am ordering my tires from said if I run a 50 profile tire 200/50r18 then it wont be much taller than the stock 200/55r17. I also had to run a 1/2" spacer between the rotor and hub since my stock wheel hub was 6" instead of 5.5" it will keep my stock spacers and drive pulley
also to give you an idea
I have $ 450 in the RSD tracker fender I had to get a new seat that is made to the RSD we went all out with a Bitchin Seat $high dollar. and I have $175 in the paint for the rear fender. $450 + $175 = $625 + seat cost. I can beat that price on my stock stuff let me know when you find out if it will work
