Yesterday I was doing some work on my night train and noticed that the wrinkle black finish on the oil tank was peeling off. The bike is a 05 so I would think that it shouldnt be happening, atleast yet, hell I only have 3,000 miles on it. Anyone have this problem? And yes I know 2005 with 3,000 miles, I travel Alot.
What kind of climate do you live/ride in? If it is humid or salty (near the coast), then it could be contributing, but I still don't think it should be doing that. You're out of warranty too. Bummer. Maybe check and see if there has been a TSB on that with your local Harley dealer, or see if there is anything they can do.
Also, what products do you use to wash and shine the bike? If you're using dish soap, and spraying it down with crappy armour all, it couldn't be helping matters...
They took a picture and are sending it in to see if its covered, but I was told probably not. I live in GA so some humidity but that shouldn't be doing it. I only wash with motorcycle products, I think it was just some shoty work.
