Still need to add some storage- Is anyone running the softail swingarm bag *without* the hard mount bracket? and what is the real advantage? is it that it enables you to move the mount point around? Does it keep it mounted any higher away from the road and prevent sagging (say with the HD bag which looks to be pretty rigid)?

Also- what adaptor are you guys using off of the battery for your phones?

Can't help with the phone, but as far as the Swingarm bag, I don't use the straps that come with it because they don't tighten down good enough. I also don't use the hard mount bracket. I use zip ties BUT I also cut a paint stir stick into 4" lengths and put the sticks inside the Swingarm bag so they reinforce the leather. That way the openings in the leather won't stretch and rip open. Works great and the bag is mounted solid.

I'm using the Leatherworks Solo Swingarm Bag with the leather straps that came with it. I thought about using a hard mount system but I'm just not sure it would fit because of my side-mounted license plate holder which is attached to the rear axle.

To have a little more storage also in the front I mounted the Leatherworks 77 (Handle Bar) Tool Bag just today. And that's where the Smartphone issue comes up as well.

Originally I wanted a 12V power plug installed underneath the seat and use a special USB adapter with it. Would have pluged a 5 ft USB to Micro-USB cable to it and lead this under the tank to the front. Only the guys at the dealer told me that because of my special exhaust control unit there is no space left under the seat.

Next we planned to have the HD power plug installed in the swingarm bag doing the same as described above. I really didn't like the idea to run the power line from the battery back to the swingarm bag and then forth again under the tank all the way up front to the handlebars.

So what I thought of instead - to get rid of all this wiring and the labor for having it installed - is to put an external smartphone battery (power bank) in my tool bag. These power banks come with up to 15,000 mAh and are able to operate and charge the smartphone via a 2,000 Ah USB power outlet. Just connect it by USB to Micro-USB to your phone (Iphone plug adapters available also) and go. Will have plenty of power even for looooong rides.

Here's a link to a power bank similar to mine >>> Here's a link to a power bank similar to mine >>>

That's how the set-up with the tool bag and my Galaxy Note 2 looks like:

I'm not exactly sure what EagleRay is using- but I've been using RAM mounts on my bikes for the last 6 years for holding my GPS, Galaxy, etc. They have mounts for every device.

Yep. It's RAM Mount!

Using a RAM MOUNT V-Shape Base with B-Ball (1") for Rails and Yokes (RAM-B-108BU)

...a RAM MOUNT Double Socket Arm for B-*****, short (2.38") (RAM-B-201U-A) and a Universal Finger Grip Cradle (RAM-HOL-UN4U).

Had to use this huge finger cradle 'cause the Galaxy Note 2 is quite big and I wanted something really reliably holding the device...(added a pad of 3 mil neopren as a little shock adsorber)

Not sure why a company doesn't create a center gas tank piece that you remove the stock chrome piece and there's literally pops into place and holds your GPS or phone perfectly.

you're right....it seems odd that nobody has thought about that.

and as for the storage....i finally gave up on a backpack. after riding with one to and from work every day....it's killing my neck. so, i guess i'm going to have to do a swingarm bag. looking at a custom made leatherworks in distressed black.

JiXeR: If you want to try a swingarm bag, I can sell you mine for whatever you think is fair.

I bought a nice LaRosa bag, black, with the "pebble" finish, but finally got the one only sissybar that fits the Breakout (it was backordered), and got it installed last Saturday morning. So, now I plan to sell the LaRosa swingarm bag. It's only a few weeks old.

If you are at all interested, PM me and I can shoot you a photo, a description, and an attractive price. No point in you paying "new" price to try a different carry solution.
