I need to replace the stock brake pads on my 2008 Night Train this weekend. Is it ok to just use the ones that my local HD Dealer sells? I've never done them before on a bike. Any tips or tricks?
There's quite a few threads on this.. there's really nothing wrong with the OEM pads. I just replaced my rear with the Lyndall Gold + or whatever they're called. Though because I don't live in South Texas, I can't tell you how they are yet.
It's really easy to change them out, btw..the hardest part is getting the rear caliper off the rotor..
I just installed some EBC V-pads. Only been able to put about 75 miles on them but I like them so far.
Make sure you loosen the 2 pad pins before you loosen the 2 mounting bolts.
I just checked my fronts and I have near 18k miles on front pads and I have over 75% off life left in the pads. Granted having dual front calipers requires less brake power on a Sportster. For my riding style i'm thinking 36-40k miles if not more on my pads and they are OEM.
