Was in a similar position a few years ago.I really liked the Fat Bob.Went to the dealer and took it for a ride and put a deposit on it.A few days later I went down to Fla.w/friends and rented a Heritage for a few days.Came home and pulled the trigger on a new Heritage, and never looked back.IMO the Heritage is the best of all worlds. Two up or solo, detachable wind shield and bags. The bike looks great all around and is a great local ride or long distance....And just to add,I had a Road King that I loved, but after five years got bored riding it,and switched to a Street Bob,also a great bike, but I did miss bags and a shield. And IMO,the SB and the FB just dont look great with the shield and bags,I also missed the big bike feel. The Softails I think are the perfect compromise betw.the big touring bike and the Dyna's.All depends on what type of riding you do and the look you want....But I gotta admit,I still have a thing for the older model Fat Bob.
All are great bikes; a tough choice to be sure. The FatBoys are great bikes, but I also like the FatBob; it's different and you don't see that many around. Hope that helps...
No bad choices in the models you have mentioned but for comfort I ride a Heritage. I think age has something to do with it. I used to prefer the more stripped down models but now comfort is more to my liking and the good quality ride. Also, on occasion I might take mine on an overnight ride and then I really appreciate the Heritage. Good luck.
I have a FB Lo and love the versatility of it. It's very comfortable on long trips. I can add my bags when I need them, quickly take them off when I don't. It can go from 'touring' to stripped down in just a few minutes, although I do leave the windshield on it all the time. I'm 5'7" and you have a couple of inches on me so you may not need the lower height of the Lo.
Thanks for all the great advice guys. I decided to go with a 2013 Fat Boy Lo, abs/security, with 3k on the odo. Put a deposit down last week and will finalize the deal Sunday. Cannot wait to ride!!
