The Slim is a good bike, easy to handle, the bike just rolls under you. I think it's better than a sporty. The center of gravity is high and they tip easier than a low softail. IMO

I tried to find a reasonably priced smaller bike for my wife to get more practice on, but struck out, so she went directly from the basic safety course to several hour-long sessions with the softail in a parking lot.

After that, we got her on some back roads, early Sunday mornings when there was little traffic with me following her in a car. She's turned out to be a very competent rider, and I really enjoy her as a riding buddy.
