Ouch. That would cost us both a bunch in shipping and taxes. Note that I'm in the UK!

When he did that for me, it included a return label for the box so I didn't have to pay shipping. I don't know that taxes would need to be payed if it's not an item that you purchased and is a replacement for a defective item. I'm not up on the laws for international mail and customs though, so I could be wrong.

I'll let you know what he comes back with.

I seem to recall others having this problem: What was the resolution? I'm worried that at some point, the shock is going to be unable to hold air and I'll be left stranded.

(I've emailed JD via the email address on his website. I hope he can sort me out. But I'm in the UK, so it's going to be a pain.)
Not sure when you purchased yours, I originally bought mine in October and my first replacement was in October as well. I spoke with him on the phone and he told me that there was a batch from that time period that had issues. #3 arrived last Friday, haven't had time to install it yet. He will most likely send you another one. the best thing to do is contact him, don't know the difference between UK time and California time but a two minute phone call is all it took for me.

Mine all came Feb - Apr. They could have possibly been in that batch. The latest one I've had on the bike for a little over two weeks works great.

Ah. Mine was from August, so not sure if that ties in. After just asking for some info, JD immediately came back saying that he would ship another unit out to me. I just hope I don't have to "hard tail" it in the meantime :-)

Do you do your own work or have someone do it for you?

I found by the second time I swapped the shock out I could do it in about an hour. I think it would have been even quicker if my rear wheel wasn't like a jigsaw puzzle when taking it off and putting it on. The axle comes out, a spacer comes out, another spacer, the rotor has to come off, the caliper has to be fit through the swingarm just right, then the last spacer comes out before you can take it off.

I did it myself. I didn't have to even remove the plastic splash guard (lower fender), let alone the wheel, so I don't know what you were doing differently. It did take me a long time, but mainly because the space between the lift arms is just too short to allow me to drop the shock out. So I had to keep lowering and moving the lift all the time.

The harbor freight hi lift jack helps with that. The tines that the bike sits on are wide and will allow the shock to swing out. I don't know if you have anything like that available over there. The PO of my bike had someone crossthread one of the two bolts that go through the shock in to the swingarm so its insanely difficult to get in and out. The first time it came off, I had to use a breaker bar the entire time. I don't think I could remove it with the wheel on.
