Open Primary and electrical issues on 2013 softail
I am having a 2013 blackline pretty much stripped down and modded the way I want it at the Harley dealership but I have 2 problems that I can't figure out:
1. I want an open primary and after 2005 they are ugly as **** because they have guards all over them and I want it to be more open like the pre-2005 primaries. I understand it switched to a 6 speed tranny but is there no way to get the more open look without the guards??
2. They are telling me that I may have "code" issues when they cut the lights off of the front and back and change the stock controls on the handlebars because of the new circuitry that Harley started using in 2011. If anyone has changed out the hand controls and customized them on a 2011 or newer, please tell me if you have had electrical issues after that.
I have ulterior motives.... I'd like to use one too, but I don't personally know anyone who has pulled the trigger. If the Army taught me anything, it's to avoid being first and to never volunteer for anything, lmao...
Primo has a good rep though, as far as I can tell. ymmv.
Be sure to give us a review if you decide to go for it. Pics too!
You might also get a better price if you go to Primo directly, or maybe check out some of their other partners. Exile puts together some sharp bikes and they sell some really cool parts, but they ain't exactly cheap.
2k for that primary certainly isnt terribly expensive. I like the inside clutch in the handlebars, too.
I will be contacting them tomorrow. Seriously, this may have saved my build/mod.

There are a number of members on here running these Exile primary's.
Im in the same boat as the OP here, these Exile units are one of the only open belts for 6 speeds that have the older style look. They also come in wrinkle black which is a big plus for us guys with wrinkle black hardware. Now there are a bunch of other well know quality open primary's out there, and just may be a better unit then the Exile (who really knows though), but I wouldn't buy some big **** bulky cage that then needs to be wrinkle black coated for a similar price as a much neater, better looking, already wrinkle black Exile unit
