I need to get passenger floor boards. I have '06 FLST. I can handle most projects with proper instructions. I've had my bike for about 1 month and have never worked on a motorcycle.
Is it relatively easy to install passenger floorboards? I'll eventually have bags, does this require some different hardware?
I know I can go to my dealer and ask, and most likely will, but I am going to buy from Chicago Harley for 20% off and no taxinstead of my local shop.
I have a set that I will use on very long trips with the wife and they are ver easy to install. Remove the peg, remove the bolt holding the peg mount to the frame and reuse the bolt to install the floorboards. Very easy to do!!
It's a pretty straight forward easy install. The hardest part was getting to the allen bolt on the inside part of the frame. On a scale of 1-12 I would rate this job at 3 beers, if you take your time.
Easiest thing in the world. Just be carefull, the first time I got on my bike and was kind of pushing it out of the garage my foot wedged under the rear board. I could see real pain till you get used to them. My wife loves them, I hate them. Just don't like the looks but they sure are nice for a passenger. Unbelievable what they charge for them, but again, thats Harley.
If you are going to add bags later then you need a relocation kit. The boards are easy to install and remove. As fbhawg said you need to get used to them when backing up. I typically kick them up then start moving.
