Question 6000 miles and need new tires?

So I bought my 2011 Fatboy Lo new. After barely 6,000 miles, I have to get new tires. Does this sound normal?

I did a search on best tires, no luck. What is the best for the bike?
Thanks!

I got 6190 out of my stock rear Dunlop on a Slim and about the same out of the stock rear on a Dyna last year, so yeah that sounds about right.
My front is getting up near 8500 and it'll need replaced soon...
I've seen a lot of good reviews posted on Michelin Commander II's for long mileage...

That was about howm many miles I got out of my first rear tire and 10k on the front. After the first set I have been get around 10k for the rear and 15k on front.

I've always ridden Triumph Sport touring bikes (Sprint ST and GT) and those tires go quick. About 6K miles. They are soft almost like a sport bike tire.
I would expect that a cruiser tire would last longer than that.
I dont know though. It's my first cruiser...

Ah, so it sounds about normal then, thanks. As for touring tires, I am more concerned with safe riding than long mileage. Are the Commander II's less grippy in order to last longer?

Not from the reviews I've read, which is part I think of why people rave about them.
It used to be you had to choose between good grip (soft, low wear) and good traction (hard, long wear), but Michelin seems to have found a good balance of both... There are other good tires too, like Dunlop Elites (E3).
..and there seems to be a surprising number who say stick with the stock Dunlops...

I had 10-12k on mine before I had to replace them. They said I needed to do more winding roads and less highway because they were wearing in the center.
