Funny... I was thinking over this EXACT issue last night - love the look of the auto gem lenses, and, after seeing a set in person yesterday, decided I wanted to add them to the tail lights on my Slim. My issue was one of visibility. With no separate tail light, I want to make certain that both brakes and turn sigs are as visible as they can be. Right now, I'm just running the stock bulbs, but this discussion prompted me to go ahead with the CD LED tail light upgrade, too.
Fronts are going to get replaced entirely when I do the apes upgrade - going with the Alloy Art LEDs that mount to either side of the forks where that chrome trim strip is on the tins.
No impact on the brightness going with the smoke with the LED? I mean really wanting BRIGHT red and BRIGHT amber...
That's exactly what my concern was... until yesterday, and thinking this through again after reading your post and SoCal's thoughts.
The smoke isn't really dark - maybe 10-15% black? Won't cut down on light transmission, and you gain a lot with the LEDs. I probably would have been OK running stock lights, but with the added brightness... no concerns from me.
JUST ordered them, so probably Tues or Wed I'll have them installed, if J&P does their usual turnaround for me.
Well, I am sold! Ordered the smoke lenses just now as well. Took advantage of J&P's sale and with shipping, sale (15%) and gold club came out to just under $76. LEDs should be here next week. Will report back once I have everything installed.
I have the colored lenses with Custom Dynamics LEDs but unfortunately one of my front lenses doesn't except the new lights. Seems the depth of the one lens isn't as deep at the others. Since I like the look I will order another set of the lenses (had the lenses before the LEDs) and hope one of them works. This may be limited and hope you don't have the same issue.
