I just use the filters that have the nut on the end so that I can just remove it with a socket.....never had any issues getting it off.

Yep, K&N filters are the ticket. Remove it with a ratchet and socket. Easy!

Definitely a beotch when you can't get the old filter loose and all the 4-letter words in your dictionary won't help loosen it off. Guessing the dealer let their "prospect mechanic" do your change and probably didn't smear a bead of oil on rubber seal. Other than over-tightening, that's why filters bond/weld themselves to the block (you probably know). Also, HD does a great engineering job planning tons of room to work around your filter (not ). Like others, I switched to K&N with the nut-end and that's my best alternative. Otherwise a "rubber strap" wrench works too. Glad you got it off & road-ready.

The guy who installed the oil filter most likely did not lube the gasket first, that is why oil filters get stuck.
