Default oil change

I was all set to change my oil. I rode it to get it warm, put it up on the Jack, drained the oil,but I couldn't get the filter off. I have the HD filter wrench but it was so tight the wrench kept sliding around like a rounded off nut. I put the new oil in but I don't want to run it with a dirty filter. Any suggestions?

Stick it with an awl or Phillips screw driver then turn it that way. I use an hd strap type wrench on mine and it works pretty good.

you can use a piece of sand paper between the tool and filter to get a better grip.

Just used the screwdriver yesterday for the last time, I am going to buy the K&N for now on.

Screwdriver or add a wrap of duct tape, twist and rewrap again with sticky side out.

I've always found the filter easier to break loose cold. I break it loose, tighten just a bit, then warm the engine up.

The sandpaper worked.i had to tape to the inside of the filter wrench, but it worked. I thought about the screwdriver trick because I've used on my truck, but I was afraid if it didn't work I'd have a destroyed filter still on the bike. But it's off and the new one installed. Thanks for the help.

Not sure what up with it but my Harley and a 4 cylinder Mercruiser inboard I had years ago do this. I have a sheet of emery cloth that I use and works better then sand paper. It's not from tighten it too tight either. In fact, if I leave it just a 1/2 turn tight, it's worst. The inboard did it so bad, the gasket was bulging out the crack.
