do yourself a huge favor and give the cats over at Hammer Performance a call (hammerperf.com)- 208-696-1250. I changed cams last season and they cut me a set of fixed length PRs. The cats are extremely knowledge bikers who are very pleasant to deal with. I must of asked 101 dumb-assed questions and they shared their knowledge with me with no attitude. They maybe able to shed some light on your situation.
good luck. I did not want to add an adjustment where the motor already had on, hydraulic lifters. I know everyone does it, right?
anywho, good luck
I just got off with Dan at Hammer Perf and he is one smart dude when it comes to troubleshooting HD engines and he's also about as nice a guy as they come. When I first described my situation his first thought was it was a detonation issue causing the tick, but after he punched in some #'s for the cams, headwork, comp ratio ect he then retracted it and didn't think it was a detonation problem. He knew it would be tough for me to diagnos the tick while under a load without the aid of a dyno so that's one thing I may end up doing. Another messy thing to try would be to run it for a short time after it's hot with the rockers covers removed to see if I could get lucky and hear the problem better with them off if it's up top. He gave me some good tips and glad I called. Thanks for the tip
great, glad you gave him a shot.
BTW, I had an 80" EVO motor that I had installed a Sifton Cam with adjustables and hydraulic lifters and some other speed goodies and as I recall had a tick when I rolled on the throttle. But then again I had a 74" Shovel with cam and adjustable PRs with solids and it ticked like a grandfather clock. My present 96" TC with SE-255s is not dead quiet either. Nothing that concerns me yet, anyhow.
Any possibility noise coming from primary?
How did you determine that there's no exhaust leak?
For one I held a tissue up near the head and throttled it up good and the Kleenex didn't blow around. I also listened near the head with a piece of hose for exh leaks.
great, glad you gave him a shot.

Not too long ago I pulled the primary and inner primary and put on a 34T front pulley and also a automatic primary chain tensioner and all looked good when I buttoned it up. But while in there I did discover the compensator nut was loose but that made a different noise (rattle) I had heard but fixed.
