I am purchasing a Slim here soon and was wondering how Softail's do on road trips? I currently live in North West Arkansas and my family lives in Alabama it is about a 9 hour drive by car.
Can't comment about a Slim but I can comment about my Springer. Bought her new in 05, have almost 78k on her now and been cross country to Sturgis and back for a total of a little over 3000 miles and no issues what so ever. For me, my Softail is very comfy.
Check the other thread on long-distance comfort suggestions. I use an airhawk, but I like the idea of using the jumbo bubble wrap as a cheap alternative.
I find doing a lot of miles at higher speeds (>70mph) quite tiring due to the wind pressure on my chest and buffetting on my head. I've got a fairing that I use if I know I'm going to be spending a lot of time "making miles" on high-speed roads. When I can, I avoid those kinds of roads, but sometimes you just have to make up distance with limited time.
