how to trailer it
Did you know that the Sturgis Rally's history is based on motorcycle racing?
The Jackpine Gypsies were motorcycle racers not "bikers".
When was the last time you raced a motorcycle?
So when you go to Sturgis are you just pretending?

To your questions:
Of course it's not a requirement to be a biker to go to a rally, let's not create such an obvious straw man here - but if you're going to trailer your bike sub 200 miles to go to a rally like Laconia you're going to catch hell for it. That's all there is to it.
I know all about Sturgis - now and past - yes.
Last time I stood in a grid was a few years ago, granted, but I've spent plenty of time on the track in my time. I never paid the bills doing it, but I'd like to think I got close.
I've never been to Sturgis during the rally, not as an adult anyway. My dad has a photo of me sitting on the tank of his old FXR in front of Rushmore in August of about 1984 if that counts. Sturgis has too many people with not enough experience riding on roads like Needles Highway or Spearfish Canyon. Instead, we ride the hills every June - when it's quiet and still cool out... and we ride all 600 miles there, one way, and we're there in time to have a steak at Roscoez for dinner. It's our tradition.
I'm failing to see how any of this has anything to do with one guy catching a little flak for not riding (the VERY short ride) to a MOTORCYCLE rally. But, I guess this is America - where everybody gets a ribbon, even if all they do is show up.
Maybe someday I can be as cool as to have my own blog where I tout my status as "All Around Renaissance Man" and explain to my many viewers how "...I was definitely the 'alpha-male' of the bunch..." during my time in the military.
... I doubt I'll ever be that cool though.
edit: ... just read through your Facebook page - you're a Tea Party guy - I'm not going to get into a back and forth with you over anything. I try to avoid people like you.

2x4's nailed or bolted if you don't have a chock works.Never tie the handlebars down.I have always tied the lowers down at the fender mount and let the suspension work.Kickstand up,it's made to hold the bike up while not in motion only.Strap at the Lower rear swing arm as close to the pivot bolt as possible has been working for a long time trouble free for me

i also use my shotgun shock to lower the frame onto a 4x4 wood block then after removing the seat run a ratchet strap from each of the opposite passenger footpegs over the frame and secure them to the fastening points on the trailer bed. it might be worth it to buy a wheel chock like the one pictured here from harbor freight for $40.00.

Seriously, if anyone wants to trailer their bike, finest kind. Unless the real reason is to also carry a damn golf cart, or worse yet, a generator and air conditional for a tent. If so, then please, please go anywhere else but a rally!
