I have the yellow sears and have used it for years. I have a couple of eyebolts in a beam across my workshop ceiling and after it gets jacked up, I strap it to the eyebolts above. Cant move and u can sit on it if necessary. Even if the jack fails, the straps SHOULD hold it or either ****** the risers out of the tree.

Hehehe, Several years ago I saw a posting here about the installation of a bestway lift and I realised that is what I wanted or needed. Took me three years to find a used one for a decent price (470.00). Yep, you guessed it, I found it on eBay. Glendale HD in CA was selling all their lifts and I got two of them. One for me and one for my buddy. Well my buddy got two of them one for me and one for himself as he picked it up for me.

I have two bikes and a servi car to maintain so the lift is the only way to go. I admit it is so easy to use I'll put the bike on the lift just to air up the tires now.

My install thread

Or bring the roof down... Seriously, I'd never trust the trusses in my garage to hold a sporty, much less my glide. They flex a bit when I put my 230 lbs on them. Put a 6x6 across 4 trusses, it'd probably hold. Maybe...

I have a Laren jack I don't even use any more, piece of crap. Have a yellow HF jack, no problem with it. It does have that weird 2 stage release, fast and then slow when you push the pedal all the way down, seems *** backwards. I mostly just use it to move bikes or when my big jack is occupied. The big one is an HF high lift, and it's really sturdy, and has a screw **** release that lets you creep the bike down, great for getting axles in wheels. All the way up put my 1200 at a perfect height for sitting comfortably on a stool and changing the clutch plates. If I ever find a good used Pit Bull or J&S for a couple hundred or less, I'll get it. With 8 bikes now, I almost always have one on a lift; just because one is running doesn't mean there isn't something more I want to do to it...

I bolted that extra angle on one lifting arm because the arms are farther apart than a standard jack, won't grab some pre-04 (solid mount engine frame) sportsters on flat points. If you notice the tie down straps, it's not because the bike moves around, it's just added insurance; I always use straps. Unlike most standard jacks, the straps attach to the lifting arms, so you can raise and lower it without having to adjust the straps (till the wheels touch ground, anyway). Downside to this jack, it won't move with a bike on it.

I have a J & S and love it. I tried my buddies pitbull lift and did not like it. He had the dyna pit bull lift and it had a big footprint. When my bike was on it I could not roll it across my garage due to the flex in the bottom of the lift. To me, the J & S is just more stable and my bike is solid when on the lift.

Pitbull Lift - the one and only

Never understood people buying one of the most expensive motorcycles there is and putting it up an a 10 cent jack. WTF?

I like the Drag Specialty lift. It's very compact and sturdy.

I have the Sears yellow. It's probably half the weight of the sears red one. I like it and would buy it again.

I have the red Craftsman that I use for my Electra Glide as it doesn't fit under my Slim so I bought a J&S for that one. $90 vs $400 . Th craftsman is not as stable and doesn't roll around as easy as the J&S but for the price difference it works just fine for cleaning the bike and winter storage.
