I finally got my new 07 heritage out for a bit longer ride tuesday. I hadn't gone past 50 mph yet , I still was under 50 miles total on the motor. But i was up to 50 and I shifted to 5th and noticed a considerable difference in the sound ,from the motor ,it didn't sound bad ,but a little loud. When I shifted to 6th it was very quite and smooth ,it felt like I was idling practically. I heard before about someones bike having louder gear noise insome gears. is this normal?
same with mine, which by the way looks just like yours.. i was told it would quieten down after putting some miles on it. i have 3000 on mine now and nothing has changed.. it is "normal" unfortunately.
one more thing.. treat yourself to a nice and much quieter ride by removing your windshield.. no more motor noise bouncing off windshield and no more 5th gear noise.. like a whole different bike.
thankx for the response. I feel better about it now, and by the way I cant believe I waited this long in life to get a Harley, anyone thinking about getting one , do it , go in debt whatever it takes you only live once!
I had a 04 heritage classic and own a 06 heritage classic now. Both made the same noise. I had over 11,000 miles on the 04 before I sold it and have around 3300 on the 06.They both ran strong with no problems.Dealer said it is normal for you to hear this. I dont know how true that is but No problems here.
I bought a new 2007 FLSTC this past Saturday and asked the dealer about this BEFORE I bought it. I was given the "straight cut" gear explanation and "normal condition" talk. It all makes sense and sounds very logical. I have worked in the automotive industry for 23 years. So I am very experienced in the field of transmissions. I don't see it as a problem.
I test drove an '07 Heritage on Sunday and was curious as I had heard quite a bit about the 5th gear noise. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find it was not very loud. Yes you could hear a change in sound but as long as you were not lugging it, it was not an issue.
By the way, loved the bike. 6th gear is a really nice thing
