Yea fat spoke rims are nice but can be a real bitch to keep clean. I've had them for over ten years. The hardest part to keep clean is the hub. Make sure you keep a good coat of wax on them, the best way I found to do this is with Heavy duty winter boots laces.
I just put 18" rear and 21" front on my fatboy. There's another thread only a couple days old. Here are a couple pics
Tehran, bike looks great......is the rear lowered or is that the stock height. Wanna go 18 in the rear of mine also and want to have an idea of what it'll look like sitting stock height.
Tehan, bike looks great......is the rear lowered or is that the stock height. Wanna go 18 in the rear of mine also and want to have an idea of what it'll look like sitting stock height.
bike was dropped 1.75" from stock. The 18" brought the bike up almost .75" so it's sitting about 1" below stock.
What size wheels and tires do you have? Any suspension changes?
Metzeler tires rear 180/50/18 on a 18"x5.5" rim.... Front 90/90/21 on a 21"x3.5" rim.... When I put the Progressive shocks on, I went with the same as stock in regards to height. The Metzeler rear is a lower profile, but is a bit wider.
Purchased 21"X2.15" front DNA Mammoth 52 fat spoke wheel for my Sporty with Metzeler rubber directly from DNA Specialties. DNA pre-installed the rubber without a tube and the tire went flat within a day. So regardless of whether or not the wheels are tubeless application, install a tube for your safety.
No other issues with DNA. Wheels were built and delivered in two weeks. Quality and workmanship appear to be a advertised. Local HD dealership installed the wheel, matching stainless steel rotor, and organic brake pads on my Sportster with no issues or negative remarks, except for the tire going flat which the dealership resolved by installing a tube. It is all good now and ready to roll.

Reason: adding photo
Ultima King Spokes - looked great for 2 years then leading side of spokes on the front wheel rusted and flaked within a 3 week period. Always kept cleaned and waxed, rear wheel no problem. Contacted Ultima - OH WELL, TOO BAD. Never again.
