Thanks,

Hey Garry -
Yes - I removed the clutch basket. I didn't buy any of the tools. I made the primary chain lock tool. I was able to get the shell off without an issue - not sure if that is always the case.

I had the Harley shop put one in the Dyna I had around 400.00 and they rebuilt the primary with new seals a couple years ago.

If your new stator doesn't come with them, be sure to buy new stator bolts and use blue loctite. It's not a hard job, just a little time consuming

I recently did mine. I had to pull the wires/grommet through the hole harder than I expected. You also have to remove the wires from the connector to get the old stuff out

also, you do not have to pull the clutch basket.

remove the chain tensioner, remove the compensator bolt, pull the center hub out of the compensator and the main gear will drop and there is more then enough room to take the chain off. I have done this on more then one occasion and it works fine. no need to mess with any clutch adjustment. if you have the stock comp no problems with the comp springs either since they are capture in a shell. if you have the SE comp, you do have to watch how the springs go back in and make sure the last small one doesn't drop out on you, but i'm pretty sure you would have the same issue if you pulled the clutch basket.

While you're in there, change out to a 31 tooth front pulley if you have the time and money.
