After reviewing the Nolan 104 I have crossed it off my list. Not because it is a bad helmet, but because it's difficult to mount an aftermarket communications system like the Sena onto it. I don't want to go with the N-Com that is used with the Nolan because my wife has a different type helmet and I don't want to run into compatibility issues with different comms systems. I may in fact go with another HJC, but still doing my research.
The new for 2015 Gringo S has a flip up shield. Just like my 1966 Bell Star, it has a snap closure. I love how the helmet has none of the "feature creep". Those vents cause lots of noise. I have a friend who taped over the Bell Bullitt top vents, and it helped but the huge opening under the chin bar on the Bullitt still caused BIG noise.
I still can't believe my new Gringo S is so quiet. And comfortable. I tried on the Gringo WITHOUT the flip shield at the store, and it did NOT fit the same. look at the photos, (link below). This helmet sits lower on your face giving a better view. I have seen no ads for this helmet or I would have bought one earlier. (The helmet in my photo is the first one the shop had, came in the same day I bought it). Flip up shield is MANDATORY for me, just like the old '66 Bell Star had.
I strongly recommend trying a helmet on b4 buying. The 'net is not a great place to fit a helmet, unless you KNOW it will fit.
I almost bought a Bullitt without trying it on, Bullitt does not fit me at all.
I bought my Gringo a few months ago. If i knew the Gringo S was on the horizon I would of waited. This is exactly what I was looking for. So instead I got the Bell Bullitt.
I have been using the Nolan N104 modular helmet for a few years now, it fits well. The girlfriend also rides and has swapped to the same helmet. It has the space already built in for an intercom if you use one. The new B4 Plus is compatible with other intercom systems as well.
It held up well when I crashed, so I bought another one.
The gringos look nice, but in hot weather I really like the venting in my helmets (Scorpion and Icon) - they really make a difference. The gringo seems like it would get uncomfortable in hot weather.
