Hi all: I have been testing Cycle Sounds Premium 3 series speakers/amp and the wind noise I experience makes listening to music all but impossible above 60 MPH. My Fatboy has the newer large HD shield with side vents.
So for those out there are have installed fairings on your Fatboy, has the fairing made a significant difference in the amount of wind noise you experience?
I just got a Reckless fairing with infinity blue tooth about 2 weeks ago. Took it for a ride before sending it to paint and I could hear it clearly at 70-75 on interstate with my D&D fatcat exhaust, and still had volume to go. My wife was on the back and she could even hear it clearly she said.
Wind noise is a lot less with the fairing. I run the 5" shield. But the wind does come up your chest...not bad unless you have a long beard...lol.
I ran those CS 3" for 4 yrs or so. With windhsield they were ok to about 65-70 running through my Iphone and CS ap but only with windshield.
I have 6 X 9 Polk speakers with a 300W amp and no matter how fast you're going you can here the music and "not" distorted. Plus the people all around me can hear it too!
I find the fairing about the same noise level as the taller hd shield and I am not installing a stereo. For the price, dealing with water proof or non waterproof equipment, sound quality, having to play music at ridiculous noise levels, adding more weight to the bars, forks and suspension, I decided if I want sounds, i will use ear buds.
