A usable "formula" for determining correct tire psi - maybe?
Thank you for the info. Technical exchange is one of the very best uses of the internet, and THE reason the 'net was created in the first place.
Tires are THE highest wearing part on the motorcycle. Tire pressure is extremely important to handling, stopping, wear, etc. Tire failure is a Common cause of a crash, VERY rarely due to manufacturing defect.
MSF recommends DAILY tire pressure check, and admits many riders check once a week, but the rider should visually inspect the tires before every ride:

I have been riding for over 40 years, and I have seen many crashes due to worn and under inflated tires. Some were due to excessive wear, some due to under inflation from a slow leak, (usually a foreign object imbedded) but my personal observations are only that. Not scientific.
I have 4 tire pressure gages. One digital, 3 very cheap pencil type, incredibly all read the same in the 36 psi range. I keep a one with me on the bike, use it often.

I used to kind of take tire pressure for granted and check it sporadically. Now I check it at least weekly. Several months ago I discovered a leak in my Sportster's rear tire -- losing 10-15PSI over the course of the week. Very unsafe situation. You got to keep an eye on that PSI.
