04 Springer Classic
Tip Top condition other than a little road rash on the right side saddlebags and slip ons.
My question is would getting a Springer with the TC 88 be a smart move or would you recommend the TC 96 or older EVO. Not concerned so much about how fast it is but how reliable the 88 would be compared to the others.
I know about the cam chain problem but is there really anything else besides that that would make this a bad choice?
Just a noob with Harley's. Please be gentle.

If you like the fl Springers than you can go the heritage or crossbones types and you'll still have a nice bike. I think the black springer front end of the bones is really pretty.
Good luck!

My personal experience is more with the old bikes and I expect (or I've gotten used to) them shaking. I personally was disappointed with the level of vibration when I bought my new 1999 Heritage Springer Classic. The only "modern" Harley I had ridden up to that point was a late '80s Dresser and I loved the ride. My impression of the '99 at highway speed was that it shook like one of my Panheads.
In 2002 I upgraded to a new Heritage Springer Classic with the 88B engine. It has a far superior ride (in my opinion) and can be used to cover distance very well. The only complaint I have with that bike is that my long legs push me far enough back in the seat that my back is against the seat rail.
The appearance of both year models is virtually the same, but the ride is significantly different.
As a footnote, in 2008 when the Crossbones came out I loved that look and got one of those as well. There is a bit more engine power and I have gotten used to the extra gear in the box. I don't think the engine is quite as smooth as the '02, but it's not bad.
These are just my opinions based on my first hand experience. Your mileage may vary, and I'm sure many younger, tougher riders will be quick to point out that I must be just an old sissy for preferring the counter balanced motor.
