88 heritage basketcase

I have come across my old bike with option to buy, 1988 heritage, 2 questions, what is it worth? What can i expect to find, puttin it back together? Been sittin in a non heated pole barn in mich, all parts are there, tires,tins,seat,etc , more concerned about possible damage to drivetrain, bike is strapped to skid, minus tires, thxs for helping.

I think I would contact my insurance agent and ask what they would offer if they had to pay a claim if this bike was totaled. At least you would have an idea of a price to start. Then figure cost of new tires installed, etc., carb cleaning or rebuild, new fluids, battery, etc., does the motor turn over? Are you going to do the work? or pay to have it done? Then compare to cost of a newer used bike in good condition How many miles on it? Could be a good buy or a nightmare because inevitably you are going to have expense that you never thought of. But maybe a great winter project and pride when it is done.

Forgot to add: inspect inside of gas tank, is it rusty? new fuel filter, etc., after getting rid of rust and using a tank liner product.

KBB on a normal, running, average condition '88 Heritage is $4,500 wholesale, $6,200 retail. So, subtract everything you think you'll spend to get it to "average running condition".
