My front fender light stopped working so I figured the bulb burned out. I pulled the bulb and checked it with an ohm meter and it tested good so I put it back in the socked and it came on. I cleaned the bulb and socket fittings and it worked for a couple days and now it is off again, I pulled and placed the bulb back in and it worked about a day now it's off again. Has anyone ever had this issue and what was the fix? Hoping something simple before I start looking for the bad connection. TIA.
For what they cost, why not just replace the bulb to make sure that it in fact doesn't have a problem or defect?
I had a problem with my rear break light socket after it got overheated by the break light being stuck in the on position due to a bad flow switch. After that I had a problem with the connectors making good contact with those on the bulb because the socket had warped a bit from the heat. Maybe for some reason the connectors in your socket aren't making good contact with those on the bulb?
Put a new bulb in and see what happens. I had the same problem on the rear and it was the bulb. The element was fine, but there was a break in the contact wire just inside the glass. I did the exact same thing you did. It worked and then didn't work.
Absolutely try a new bulb first. If you have a volt meter that checks resistance or continuity I would perform the following. First, using your voltmeter, check the circuit that has voltage to it in the lamp socket and verify you have voltage. If not, I would say you have a problem in that circuit. If you do have voltage then check for continuity in the ground side of the lamp socket. Whichever circuit is causing the problem you will need to trace it out.
I was going to replace the bulb when I had it to the dealer for the 5.000 mile service, they didn't have the bulb in stock. lol. I will look elsewhere for a bulb. Thanks for the replies.
