I need to know if it will be safe to ride with 460 pounds loaded on a Heritage classic? Rider 160 + pillion 240 + leathers and helmet 40 + luggage 22.
According to what I can find on the internet, that might be a little bit to much, but will it still be OK if I do not exceed 70 m/h?
The manual for my 2014 says a limit of 399lbs added weight (GVWR 1160lbs - 761lbs running weight).
With a max load, you should adjust the preload on your shocks to the maximum, and ensure your tires are at the proper pressure and are in good condition.
Heres for the 2013, different years will have a slight variation
o As Shipped 719 lbs. (326 kg)
o In Running Order 752 lbs. (341 kg)
o Gross Vehicle Weight Rating 1160 lbs. (526 kg)
o Gross Axle Weight Rating:
o Front 430 lbs. (195 kg)
o Rear 730 lbs. (331 kg)
Obviously you have a computer so I assume you can look up the spec data yourself so I want repeat that.
I've lost some weight, however a couple of years ago I weighed in at about 265, Wife, 135, tour pak and gear about 30 for a total 430.
The bike handled fine.
Yes when we were all on it, I noticed a difference vs. riding solo, but I don't think the Heritage will have a problem with 460 other than less power.
However if your pillion has 240 on it, it will make a difference in the way the bike handles because that's a high point on the bike.
I think though as long as you are aware of the increased lean ability and are ready for it you shouldn't have a problem.
