i know this issue with flush gas caps has been discussed a thoundsand times.
i'm a little leary of over heating the plastic trim ring.
do you place the trim ring on the tank and then heat it?
is your bike a springer with a deauce tank? or a deuce with springer frontend and rear fender?
thanks

Ok, first of all....
my previous bike was an '06 Deuce, I traded it in on the '07 SE Springer.[8D]
you can see both bikes in this post, the Deuce is the attachment and the SE Springer is in my sig pic.
the trim ring gets (slowly) heatedoff of the bike, then after you're satisfied with the fit, pull the backing off the adheasive and stick it onto the tank.

i have a question for you. right now i don't have any guage. but since the gauge is not installed the low fuel light stays on. i'm trying to figure a way to get to go off. i read the manual and the light needs a resitance of about 100ohms (1/2 tank). i was thinking if i spliced the resitor between the grey wire.
what do you think?
thanks again for your help

hate to be a pain. i went to the dealer today the flush caps for the rocker had a note to turn trim ring until it fits with no gap. i was talking to the parts guy who was reading me the riot act on how the rocker tank isn't the deuce tank blah blah.
i know you mentioned that you use the touring version. i've spent a hour looking for the thread.
the wiring for the touring doesn't have the extra wire correct?
thanks
promise no more questions about this
thanks again

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
The "Softail" version gauge has 7 LED's total, six blue LED's for fuel level and one red LED for "low fuel level"/ reserve. it has the "grey" wire that gets connected to the speedo for the "low fuel LED" in the gauge, the low fuel light in the speedo will no longer work when you hook up the grey wire.
The "Touring" version gauge has 7 LED's total, all seven LED's are blue and all seven are used for fuel level, there is NO "low fuel" LED on the touring gauge an therefore no grey wire to connect to the speedo, so your low fuel light in the speedo will work as it always did. the Touring gauge also has a blue "gas pump" icon that's lit up in the middle of the fuel gauge, it serves no purpose.
The reason I like the "touring" gauge is because there is no grey wire (I like the "low fuel" light in the speedo better anyway), and you have all seven LED's used to show fuel level.
also another interesting thing is that my CVO springercame withthe flush mount gauge set on it, they obviously used the "touring" gauge because it has seven red LED's (the CVO bikes use red LED's instead of blue) and a red "gas pump" icon in the middle of the gauge, my low fuel light in the speedo also works!
I guess the CVO guys feel the same way about the "Touring" version gauge as I do! LOL
your parts guy is on crack![:'(]
the rocker tank looks exactly the same as the Deuce tank...
and from what you said about the rocker trim ring, it sounds like it will fit the Deuce tank just fine!
does the rocker gauge use the grey wire???
