Hey brothers...I asked a local powder coater about the exhaust heat sheilds and this is what happened...
hey guys,
I've got a black Harley and I'm looking to get a few pieces powder coated. I ran into another biker the other day who recommended you and low and behold, but you're right down the street from me! Anyways, I got some small parts, levers, braces, etc. that I'd like to get powder coated, but I was curious about my exhaust heat shields. Can you powder coat those black and can they resist the exhaust heat without problems? Thanks!
Chris,
Powder will survive 300 degrees F continuous operation, anything above that the color will begin to fail.

Harley lists the heat shields but they are only for the headers. The muffler heatshields cannot be purchased separately from the screaming eagle mufflers.
I ended up taking the heat sheilds off completely and using black DEI wrap. I also stayed the wrap with a coat of ceramic black paint. We'll see how it holds up. I'm saving for an engine upgrade now, so I'll likely replace the pipes anyways. Like a newbie, I can't get the damn pictures to work (although I did put two in my profile). For those interested, I shot a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmxDB-u5pYA
