Default Trip to Pigeon Forge

It was time to get away for a bit so off we went last Thursday. I really didn't care where, Gayle mentioned Gatlinburg so I got on the web and found a deal on a cabin for $85 / night. We left Thursday morning about 7:00am. I just didn't feel like going through Shelby that day so we went up 321 to 40. I don't know the difference in time and mileage but it sure was nice to go from I-85 & 321 all the way to Maggie Valley with no stop lights in between. Made a few stops along the way and got to the cabin about 3:00pm. Unloaded and went to the grocery store for a few essentials ( Bud Light ), then ordered in for dinner.

Didn't do much riding while we were there, it was hot. Friday we just cruised around Pigeon Forge for about half a day. Spent some time in the hot tub. Saturday we rode over to Maryville to see my sister and brother-in-law. Checked out Smoky Mtn H-D. That is a really nice dealership. It's the first H-D dealer I've been to that had other brands of motorcycles for sale. They had 9 different Kawasaki, Victory, Yamaha bikes for sale in the used dept. Left Sunday morning for the ride home. The ride through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was outstanding. A jacket felt good riding through the park that morning. Made it home safe, motorcycle ran perfect, no problems at all, 646 miles total. Looks like it's about time for another rear tire.

Here's a link to cabin rentals in the area-

Glad you had a good time. Excellent area to ride. We rented a Chalet in Gatlinburg this past May and spent 6 days riding the area. No shortage of great roads there. We rode the Blue Ridge Parkway, Foothills Parkway, the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, the Park in both directions and many other sweet roads we discovered. Can't wait for next year.

Sounds like a great trip. We have rented a cabin in Cherokee for the fall rally. The mountains are my favorite place to ride too. Hope to see ya on the road.

Glad to hear you enjoyed your ride. The wife and I just got back from Gatlinburg a week or so ago. 'Land of the Blue Smoke' as the indians call it. To me its 'God's Country' for sure. Nearly 1600 miles round trip with no problemos....ceptin the heat, we were leaving just as the temps were going triple digit.

You're right about the heat. I wanted to go to the Barber Motorsports Museum in Birmingham but I thought it would make for a better trip for my wife if we went somewhere "cooler". Thursday we got into Pigeon Forge about 2:30pm and as we're sitting in Arby's having a sandwich I can see the clock / thermometer across the street at the bank. In the time it took us to eat the temp went from 95 to 101 and back down to 98.

Yes we went to Cades Cove. The ride back to the loop was awesome full of some nice twistys.

Stupid me, when we got all the way back on the loop I noticed the fuel gauge was on E..lol. So I was sweating it a bit, that and it was sooo hot, and traffic was at stop speed at best and would not pull over like the signs asked, so the ol V Twin was getting a skosh warm causing me to get a skosh warmer...but luckily they finally let us by and we made it all the way back into Gatlinburg without having to go to reserve. Still not sure how far I can go on E or how far I can go on reserve....phew, glad I didn't have to find out the hard way. But, any and everyone, if in Gatlinburg, DO NOT buy gas at the Texaco on the south end of town as you are going out, they are quite a bit higher priced than the others in town.
