Columbia, SC Area Roll Call
I dont like bodily harm so my *** is staying put!
But I do need to get some riding in. I havent rode far in a while.
Tomorrow is car shopping. Wanting to get a Tahoe.
On Wed. the 13th I left Columbia about 6pm and spent the night in Jacksonville. Then went to Daytona for Biketoberfest the next day. I went to the Old School Choper Show at Tropical Tattoo in Ormond Beach sponsored by "The Horse" magazine. There were some nice home built bikes at this show. None of the high dollar bikes built by famous TV builders were presant. Though I see David Peroitz (sorry about the spelling) there checking out the bikes. He was riding a nice custom bagger.
I checked out the bikes on Beach Street. The new Indians look nice but I'm afraid they are priced out of my range. The Triumph dealer had some killer deals on 2010 Bonneville Americas. $6500 out the door! Wow! I had an ear of roasted corn on the cob at the Progressive Insurance display. At a $1 donation to charity its a deal.
I camped at my usual place on The Old Dixie Hwy. which is on the "Loop". spent two nights around the campfire with some good people sharing laughs and bike stories. It dosen't get any better.
Since I left late on the 13th I took the Interstate. No problems on I-95. Traffic was fairly light and moved well. I made it to Jacksonville before 10pm and got a room for $42. On the return trip I took US 301 and SC 3. This is my favorite route to florida because its like going back in time. Traffic is usually very light even going to Bikeweek as I usually don't see any bikes until I get to Jacksonville. There are some longer stretches through the woods between towns and I know some backroads that cut some corners and avoid some towns too.
I always try to make it to Jesup for lunch. Sybil's has the best country cooking. Buffet and drink for less than $10. This place has great food. You've heard of Cafe Racers? I'm a Buffet Racer. The last stop before home was to get a drink of water at the Healing Springs in Blackville. I always stop for a drink when I go by because I figure it can't hurt.
Overall a good trip with great weather.
Longest trip was Columbia to Rockingham. Meet my Dad in a little town off of I77N, then to pineville. Got a hotel that night than off to Rockingham next morning.
The weather is weird lately so cant really plan any decent trips. Would If I had a bagger or something. But other day at PT, 0600am was like 70. Next day 45 deg. WTF?
But I do like the idea of just riding backroads and grabbing a bite to eat in other states/towns.
May put the bike in the shed and start doing some work on it.
16'' Apes are next and painting of motor.
