Little help please. I`m going to buy a bike from a guy who lives in SC. He has the title in hand. When I go to pay for and pick the bike up what all needs to be done. In NC you need to sign and notarize in front of a notary, bill of sale is needed also I think. Help me out never brought many things from private owners.
If hes got a clear title and you've got the money all you need is a hand written bill of sale to take to the DMV. Never hurts to ask the seller to make you out a bill of sale alot less than you actually paid cause thats what you'll be paying sales tax on!!
I don't want to steer you totally wrong as it has been a few years since I sold a vehicle here in SC. But I think you need to do what ever NC requires since that is where you will beregistering the vehicle and getting a Tag for it. If you were to license it in SC from whatIremember they will require you to pick up an official SC DMV Bill of Sale document from the DMV. Which based on their sample on site doesn't have to be notorized. But I think NC's do have to be notorized. Don;t know if you have to use their form however.
Visit NC Department of Motor Vehicles website and see if they can direct you to the correct procedures or perhaps give them a call.

All you need is the notorized title, no bill of sale required. They(the tag office) will ask how much you paid for it and they will most likely tax you on the tax value of the bike or atleast that is how they have done me in the past on cars.
Like Cobra said, check out the NCDMV website to be certain. But it nevers hurts to overkill to avoid having to drive a bunch of miles back to the seller.
I have sold several vehiclesin SC lately. Most of the titles have the mileage statement and seller/buyer info to be completed. SC requires a Bill of Sale of this is not on the title. They require a SC approved Bill of Sale. The State version has a blue back ground and can be picked up at any DMV. It is strongly recommended to have a State Bill of Sale if you are transferring out of state.
Heres all you have to do. Get owner to sign over title, bring it with you to dmv and have your name signed in new owners place, proof of insurance. Thats it.. I asked the lady 3 times just to make sure, now if theytell me tomorrow I needed it notarized I`ll go Balistic.....now she didnt mention all the money I`ll need to bring along either.
