Default AZ Ride #14 - 11/23/08 - PHX/TUC

There appears to be quite a bit of interest in a redo of the combined PHX/TUC ride that was left unfinished due to the unfortunate circumstance of Bills accident.

Leave off Mt. Lemmon (been there, done that), meet at Tucson HD, Three Points, Arivaca, Nogales (alternate: Rio Rico), Patagonia, Sonoita. Sort of a reverse of the AZ Ride #13.

Tentative Route 229 miles: AZ Ride #14

Suggestion has been made (by Joe I believe) to start this ride a little later in the morning 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM.

NOTE: Tucson HD is having the Grand Opening Celebration on that weekend 11/22 and 11/23, the Demo Truck will be there, food, discounts, etc. The gates will be open around 8:30 AM on 11/23. I've checked with the dealership and they see no problem in accommodating the AZ Ride crew.

As always, suggestions, changes, mods, are appreciated.

Let me know when there is a Phx/Tucson ride going north, it appears to me that a lot of the riders from Phoenix are on the south side of Phoenix or further. I live in Peoria and would be at 150 miles just to get to the Tucson HD dealer. Maybe someone could compile a list of riders and their proximity to each other, and centralize the rides. Maybe the north can meet the south somewhere.?

Keep your eyes open for future rides. We ride all over the state. We were going up north all summer to avoid the heat so now we have been looking toward the south a little. We do have some west side riders as part of our group and we are always happy to meet new riders. You could post a ride for the group if you have a specific route in mind. Look forward to meeting you.

Actually, this is kind of splitting the difference. The Tucson group was doing the extra traveling during the summer to meet up with us and ride north. Now that the temperatures are cooling off, we're heading their direction.

We have Phoenix area riders from Avondale, Laveen, Peoria, Queen Creek, Chandler, Phoenix, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe, etc. The east side riders usually head down through Florence and the west side riders can go down via I-10. Meeting points along the way are determined in the ride thread or by PM.

After we meet up a couple of times in Tucson, maybe we can look at a more centralized location to meet. Usually depends on the route and destinations. Some are always going to have longer distances to travel to get to the starting point or home from the end of the ride. In most cases, the west side riders had the longer days during the summer (and had to ride across town into the sun at the end of the ride).

We can also look at some overnight trips during the winter. Everyone is encouraged to propose ride plans.

OK, now Dean and Joe are doing the simultaneous posting. This time I heard Joe on the keyboard in the other room, so I resisted the temptation to answer this one!!

Corrected - now you know why I have GPS...

It was me that requested the later start time from Tucson because SOME people have trouble getting up early in the morning.

Tucson HD is sponsoring the Wounded Warriors Ride on the 22nd. I don't go to most poker runs and stuff because I have my own preferences where my donations to charity go to. But Wounded Warriors is definitely one of them so I'm going to join this ride.

I hope to join you guys on the 23rd, sounds fun.

Donna and I are in for this ride.

If anyone wants to do a Phoenix area ride on the weekend of the 15th/16th (the Phoenix group's normal ride weekend), come up with a ride plan and post it as AZ Ride #13-1/2 with the date.

Or PM me with ideas and I'll post it.
