Default LSR 2009 Info

As always thanks for your support!. LSR was a whirlwind! Toughest I've done in 28 years of events! We managed to make it through physically and financially and our future is bright! LSR is proof that you can't keep the riding community down! About 100,000 or so of you showed and had a great time in spite of the crazy weather, fires and hotel problems. Our vendors enjoyed great sales and we donated thousands of dollars thru the Rally To Rebuild!

We have received hundreds of emails asking about the dates for 2009. I believe that the truth will set you free so here goes.......In 2008, we spent dozens of very expensive hours negotiating with Galveston City Manager Steve LeBlanc and his team about the terms for future rallies. We had reached agreement and were awaiting the City Attorney to input some minor changes on City regulations and write up the contract. Then Ike hit...

We all struggled thru the date change problems but still agreed to be permitted for 2009 going into the 2008 show. Again, Steve LeBlanc has failed to produce either document. We are technically out of business without permits. We will not allow this to happen. When asked about a timeline for getting this done he again sidestepped the issue by stating "when I get done with this and that". This has happened every year for the last five years and frankly, we are fed up with it. This issue, coupled with dozens more (including skyrocketing costs, ridiculous hotel gouging, lack of infrastructure and amenities) are fast making Galveston an untenable place to do business.

Here is the fact...... Lone Star Rally, Inc. has told Galveston to deliver our contract by January 15, 2009 or the Lone Star Rally will seriously consider leaving. We don't really want to but they give us no choice. We didn't have to return to Galveston after the storm. We did so at great cost and risk as the Rally to Rebuild. We donated thousands to the cause and most importantly generated hundreds of thousands of dollars in tv news time telling the world that Galveston was open for business. We have kept our word on every issue and delivered to Galveston an internationally acclaimed, first class event that any city would be proud to have. As of right now, we are in discussion with several, beautiful and desirable cities about the prospects of moving.
We intend to present the Lone Star Rally on Halloween Weekend 2009 as the World's Largest Halloween Party. Where is to be determined.

I went in 07 and had a great time. I knew many of the vendors wouldn't be able to meet the new 08 date and that the island was still a mess, so I didn't go this year.

In 07, many of the Strand shops were not rally friendly and tried to get the city to withhold the permit for 08. I'm open to wherever they hold it in 09.

If the Island doesn't want us, so be it! It will just be another economic blow to the city. I'm sure there will be many cities that would love to receive some of our money!!!

+1
After 07, I'll never go back to Galveston. Move it somewhere else and I'll be there.
