Again there is talk about my office closing which would put me out of work. I decided to be proactive and start to prepare now, before it happens.
So here is a ride plan I put together. This is my first whack at it, just a start. Time frame will be April or May, thinking 4 to 6 weeks. Do the south part first.
People to see in Austin, Coco Beach, St. Louis, Albert Lea and Denver. May be adding more. Also on the path is The Dragon, Black Hills, Yellowstone and the Million Dollar highway.
Time for some fine tuning, let me have your thoughts please.
Oh, and if anyone is interesting in going along speak up.
You asked ... Is this trip only for the unemployed or retired ? 4 to 6 weeks ? Not many people I know have that much vacation time . Unless I lose my job I can only ride out for a week at a time. Sounds like a good ride thou .
Matt, you must be planning on having a bunch of free time .. I couldn't be gone that long. Have you been watching the old Easy Rider movie or something?
First off, I pray that it is "only talk" about closing your office. But that is quite a ride plan you have going there. I wished I had enough vaction time and funding to make that trip !
I am confused about your routing through Texas. Are you wanting to hit the Three Sisters ( Texas Twisties) or hit Luckenbach? Or just trying to get off I-10 for a little bit? I'd be happy to make suggestions, and ride along some on your way through....
Matt
I hope you keep your job. I know it is tough waiting to know for sure. Your trip sounds like my bucket list!
I wish I had enough time and money to consider a trip like this.
Maybe when I retire. Good luck with it.

I was hoping for some inputs from locals. At this point I merely put in the stops I wanted to make and made sure I went thru the tail of the dragon, Yellowstone and Silverton. The rest needs to be looked at in detail. If you have suggestions thru Texas, I am all ears...
If you care to ride part of it with me, that would be great.

It looks like there may be a window where I could squeeze this in. Not many chances to do something like this as you both eluded to. I'm not sure it will happen, but I want to be prepared.
Last year we went thru Silverton in June. The weather was good, but it was brisk up in the passes. I also remember snow along side the road. What is the earliest one should consider taking that route thru Co? Yellowstone also for that matter?

Here is a link to a google map I created for you. For any others who look at it, it is routed for riders coming from the west heading east. Naturally there are many options... the three sisters are from pin B ,C ,D, E.
Yes that's about right 3 to 3 1/2 hrs, 4 hrs with a rest stop in Leaky at one of the several Burger/Bars that cater to the Biker community. One is on the right as you come into Leaky (I can't remember the name, it is fairly new) the other is on the left at the intersection of Hwy 83 (Hog Pen). Top off your tank in Junction when you exit the frwy, and then again in Leaky, and you should be good fuel wise. Cuz the next fuel after you get back on the interstate is 30 or so miles, when you get to Kerville.
