So this morning I go to fill up the tank just up the road from my house. Now, I have a harley brand locking gas cap that was given to me as a gift a few years back. When I attempted to unlock it this morning the lock will not catch and unlock. It will just spin. I cannot get the lock to engage so I can take the gas cap off.... any ideas on how to get this damn thing off? I spent 20 minutes at the gas station trying and just took it back home in frustration
Had the same problem with one and eventually stopped using it. Just persevere with trying to get it off and you will eventually succeed, but don't use it again!
no way in hell am i gonna use this thing again once i get it off........ just a matter of figuring it out now so i can use the damn bike lol. So far nothing is working to get it off... I've been at this for a while now, im getting tempted to grab the biggest drill bit ive got and have at this *****
Think calm thoughts! Don't do anything drastic, for risk of harming the tank etc. I don't recall how exactly mike came off, I just kept operating the key while also turning the cap itself, until eventually the two came together. It did take some hours! Best of luck.
im gonna have to step away from it for a while cause it's not coming off and it is damn sure making my blood boil..... when i get this damn thing off i am throwing the POS in the fire
i tried pushing down, i tried giving it a "love tap" tried pulling up on the cap, all sorts of crap, its like the key barrel/lock barrel stripped out and will not grab anything on the inside. I had to go to work, so when i go back home in a few hours i will be trying it again. Hopefully it works

Don't think I'd be using a drill.
My drill throws off sparks from the electric motor and sparks over a gas tank isn't a good idea.
Wish I could help you. Never had this problem. I have never had anyone try to take gas out of any of my bikes or anyone's bike that I have ever known. However, I and probably others really would like to know how you eventually get it off so if this comes up again.
