Hi, I'm a very new rider and today my iron883 was revving and accelerating on its own. Very scary for me! After some research it looks like it was the throttle lock, star shaped thing under the throttle. I would prefer not to have this at all, is there an easy way to disable or remove this? Thanks Steph
u can remove the friction spring inside the throttle housing -
the star/ adjuster which u speak of screws into the friction spring clip which then pushs on the grip holding it in place ..
just take the screws out of the grip housing / brake lever
seperate the 2 and youll see the friction spring ontop of that screw u speak of .. just remove it and youll never have it stick
it can also be what they said above - the cables to tight or kinked makin the same thing happen - to check this first , run the bike - turn the bars full lock all the way left then all the way right
see if the bike revs up
You should just be able to back it off a couple turns. I use mine sometimes on long rides. I can spin it with my thumb and use it as a cruise control to rest my right arm. But if you don't feel comfortable with it then get rid of it. Has there been any work done on it recently?
I'm going to guess that the revving on its own is not sure to the throttle lock. Were you turning the bars when it was revving?
Its was revving the whole time, thinking maybe the throttle was sticking. I tried to play around with the star shaped thing underneath but doubt I'm doing it right. Might be time to call Harley assist. Thanks anyway

It's regular screw threads, turn the "star ****" counterclockwise (looking at it) as far as it will go, there is a "c" clip inside the housing that holds the screw from coming all the way out IIRC. Also check to see your cables are fully seated in the throttle body, has anyone pulled on your cables lately? Or caught them on something in the garage?
Also, if it's really cold outside, your EFI may keep the idle speed elevated for a while. Although, if you're in Sydney, I doubt that's an issue right now.
