Default 883R shock settings

Hi there.

This newby is having problems with an '06 883R Sportie.

All seemed fine until I took my girlfriend along.
Every little bump in the road made the bike feel as though it bottomed out.
Read the manual and found that I could adjust the shocks.

Checked it out and it was on the middle of three settings.
There was nothing in the manual or on the shock to tell me which way to turn the thing for two up, but I made an educated guess and turned it so the effect was to move the pin to the setting on the right - IE resting on the notch furthest from the saddle.

Thought it seemed better, but it's still bottoming out on bumps (loads of them on UK roads nowadays..!).

Did I turn it in the correct direction?
And, if so, what's the answer to my ongoing problem?

I'm around 6ft and 13stone (180 pounds?) and my girlfriend is slim, so neither of us are particularly large.

Cheers guys.

That was the correct way to go. It will stiffin it up with that setting.

Thanks for that.

It's not good news though - it means I did it correctly and there's still a problem.
The shocks obviously aren't up to the job of two fairly average sized people.

I've been reading up about replacement shocks but due to a fairly recent divorce I'm strapped for cash, so we may have to grit our teeth for the time being!

Cheers.

Mike

A set of Progressive Heavy Duty shocks will solve your problem.

Yep, when you can afford them a set of Progressive 412 Heavy Duty shocks will do the trick.

Ah!

There's the rub.

Over in the UK those shocks come out at around a pound per dollar if you see what I mean.

Around $206 dollars upwardsin US, around ÂŁ206 upwards in UK - making them the equivalent of over $400 the pair.

Ouch.

Guess I'll have to wait.

Thanks though guys.

you could always suggest she goes on a diet - then you could spend the money on a solo seat instead !

Yep, would definitely only need the solo if I suggested that one.
I'd probably feel as though I'd taken a nosedive from the Sportster at 70mph too.......

Am I confused? I thought the current exchange rate was in your favor.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007
210 US Dollar = 155.014 Euro
210 Euro (EUR) = 284.491 US Dollar (USD)

Interbank rate +/- 0%
This means:
You buy 210 US Dollar : 155.014 Euro
You sell 210 US Dollar : 154.999 Euro

You buy 210 Euro : 284.491 US Dollar
You sell 210 Euro : 284.519 US Dollar [/align]

It is, but the sellers over here don't seem to see it that way!

At current rates your shocks at $206 would be little more than ÂŁ100 here, yet they're selling them for ÂŁ206 upwards.

I guess they have to import them etc, so maybe they'll argue they aren't prifiteering.

I'm none too sure how much import duty I'd pay if I ordered them in the US and got them shipped here.

At the end of the day, it'll have to wait a bit.

Mind you, having spent 3 days at Harley's European Riders Edge in Wales recently, I've realised that out of all the range (got to ride the whole lot while I was there), I really NEED a Heritage Softail Classic.

WHere the hell I'll get the cash for that is anybody's business!
