I have a 08 1200c, I also have a 2 up mustang seat with a sissy bar.
I'm 6' 210 my wife is 5'10 150. We ride all the time and she is real comfortable.
I think it's all in the seat bro.....
Road 2up on a new at the time 2008 XLR1200 (Roadster). Not very comfortable for more than a short hop. Bottomed out all the time. Did this for almost five years then finally broke down and bought a new 13 Heritage. Should have done this the day after I bought the Sportster.
Sportsters are great for solo riding, if you wanting to do 2up, at least go for a Dyna!
guess this depends on your suspension i had a burly slammer kit on mine to slam mine to the ground and never bottomed out fully loaded with a passenger, can also depend on the road conditions too
Trust me, your stock shocks can handle 2 up. Put your shocks on the middle setting and get a sundowner seat. I'm 275 and my wife is 160, no problems here.
I had a 2011 1200C and after a disasterous run to the Tail of the Dragon, I shelled out about $300 for a Mustang touring seat, and after that we have ridden for hours at a time with no issues.
Moved that seat to my '88 883 and have the same results.
Invest in a Mustang or Corbin touring seat if you want to make longer rides.
EDIT: Look at post #8 in this thread, that is the exact seat I have. Worth every dollar.

Reason: addition
Appreciate it everyone's input. The seat right now is the stock from Harley. Im goin to look into a new seat maybe a sundowner I hear they are pretty comfy
A 1200 can easily handle the two of you. No problem at all.
The question is whether or not your wife's tush can handle the passenger "seat".
sporster
never; she would last 4 minutes max on the seat that the local HD dealer provided; its a local made seat and not a true HD seat.
Even then it needs improvement to get a high; and padded seat.
I had queries about the exhause seat for the passenger as we wear shorts; year around.
