I live in the SW Fla., which should splain what the summers are like. So I'm wondering if some form of auxiliary cooling, be it oil or a fan, would be beneficial for my 2012 Sportster 1200C.
I installed a PCV so it runs a lot cooler, temp wise, than stock. IMHO it's cruel to have an engine run this hot stock from the factory. Yep she bathes in synthetic oil to help with high temps here.
Yep I plan on keeping it and riding it as long as the Lord wills it and the river don't rise.
Thanks all.
What oil temps are you running? I don't care about the weather.
I would have included that in my original post if I knew.
Agree it's something that needs measuring as a benchmark before making a decision on which system to use.
Modern synthetic oils don't start to break down until somewhere north of 400 degrees. Doubtful you will ever see oil temps over 250 degrees regardless the temps you ride in. If you do you've got problems no method of cooling will help.

Reason: numbers error
Before my '06 1200C was totaled, I was riding it daily in Phoenix in the summer. Hit 120 degrees a few times, no fan or oil cooler. Never had a problem; I just checked the oil level every now and then to make sure enough was in circulation that it had time to cool off a bit before going back to the engine. That bike could take a lot more abuse than I could.

I would get the HD Oil Temp dipstick. That will really allow you to monitor things and see if its actually needed. Definitely keep the Synthetic in and run premium gas. I'm in FL and haven't needed an oil cooler yet...though on a super humid and hot day I'm not riding anyways.
Your bike has been rigorously and exhaustively tested to operate from the Arctic to desert conditions and will be fine, unless you modify it. You don't get either of those extremes in FLA, so ride on and enjoy! You risk causing problems by over-cooling it.
