Default Slip on Question??

I know this has been asked many times but. The wife just bought a new sportser and I had them install vans
and hines slipons. But when we signed the papers for the scooter I also had to sign something on the contract
saying if it did not run right I could not come back on them. Just because I would not do there race tuner and
air filter up grade. Has anybody else had something like this when buying a scooter??

Default RE: Slip on Question??

I think they're just trying to protect themselves because when you add less restrictive pipes or mufflers, to get the louder sound, you risk the chance of running the motor too lean. I would recommend either getting it dyno tested afterwards or go ahead and pay the piper and get the air cleaner upgrade and tuner kit. I too thought that it was all snake oil sales talk untilI had mine dyno tested and couldn't believe how lean my bike was running. A motor thats too lean can run hot, and even burn a valve. Also can cause blueing of the pipes and hard starting, loss of power, etc. I am by no means an expert at this but do consider it. I ran mine about a month before having it dyno tested then upgraded and from my personal experience I did notice a power loss and had some yellow/bluish tinting around the headers. Luckily my heat shields conceal some of it. After my stage one upgrade I now have good power across the powerband and the bike warms up much quicker now. The only nice thing I noticed before I found out I was running too lean was that I was getting really great gas mileage. It dropped about 8 mpg after the upgrade but it was worth it. Short term and long. Good Luck!
