I have my sportster tendered (the light is green), covered (All weather) and I tried to start it yesterday. The lights, fuel injection all came on but when I hit the run switch. . . all I heard was click click click, really fast. I am in VA and yes it is 27 degrees. The bike is in a parking garage.
So what is the problem???
Please any advise. Is it the battery? Do I call a mechanic??
check to make sure the battery cables are tight and that then end of the neg. battery that goes to the frame is tight and clean...if all that is good have the battery checked at a auto parts store..even though the green light is on for the tender the battery can still be bad...
Sounds like the battery. If you have a voltimeter you can use it to determine what the battery's charge is but you have to know how to use it. I'd just pull the battery and take it to an Auto Zone or another auto parts store to have it tested. If it's the original battery - 3 to 5 years old - it may have crapped out.
Defiantly check the battery or have someone check it, I know most people say they get 4 to 6 years out of them and some even longer but my battery went bad in the first two years.
They cost around $120 at the dealership I would advise buying it there only for the fact when my battery went out it was a holiday and the only place open was a Honda Dealer so I bought a battery from them - which they said was compatible $70 it only lasted about five months, thankfully when it died I was at home.
