i think most shocks are adjustable with a special wrench where u actually turn the notched part of the shock on the bottom to different heights

You gotta buy the wrench. When I got my bike new, the shocks were at the lowest setting, and I bottomed out on the way home. I tried to buy the wrench the next day, and they said they only had one, and that they needed it back. He let me take it with me, and when I came back with it, I gave him two more I made at work. As long as you have a pattern, it's simple. Put the shocks at the highest level, mineare at five, and you should be fine for any load.

The wrench you want is very similar to a spanner wrench. It is a very simple designed tool.I bought my shortly after I bought my bike. The one I got wasn't but about 9 or10 bucks.

turn the shock clockwise....
that is to say to the 'Lower" notch. the lower the notch, the more compression on the spring. the more compression, the stiffer the ride.

I used a pair of channel locks with rubber caps over the teeth to adjust the shocks on my '00 Sporty. I know some of you may cringe (sp?) at that thought. But it worked, it didn't marr the finish, and I didn't buy the wrench. I actually just used the same procedure last week on the front shocks on myfourwheeler.
