I have an 03 XLH 883 with the cali stuff on it. I have one vac line behind my carb that splits into a V. 1 line is going to the carb and the other is hanging in open air. IS this other line the one that goes to the Petcock valve?? Does anybody have a diagram they could send me. Please let me know, this is the only thing holding me up now. thanks.
one goes (from each end of the vee) to the charcoal canister the other to the voes (behind the petcock) and where they come together goes to the carb..(if I remember right)..
Ok, what about the tiny one coming off the side of the petcock? Where does that plug in? Ive been reading about people having issues with this setup. For a bike im going to be selling, would it be advisable to get the block off plate, and the other part " cant remember the name" to eliminate this stuff?
The vacuum port on the top of carb goes to the VOES and the Fuel Valve vacuum diaphragm.
You should have another port on the side of the carb, near the fuel inlet fitting That is where the purge line for the charcoal canister goes.
You can plug that off with a vacuum cap (1/4") and pull off all that canister crap if you want. I also just put a vacuum cap on the fuel tank overflow spigot, and split it with a razor so it could vent if pressure in tank. I have a 1991 CA model, so it should be quite similar, except mine did not have a vacuum fuel shutoff that year.

I have a 1989 California Hugger. My Haynes manual says that the vacuum operated valve which is connected to the vacuum operated switch seals off the float bowl vent when the engine isn't running and vents it when the engine is running. It says if the valve was bad the engine would run lean. I find this explanation hard to believe. I wish I had a vacuum diagram for the bike. Mine is capped off as well. The only vacuum line I have hooked up is the one going to the VOES. Don't know what to make of all this because the bike has a different tank and no valve. I also don't have any smog stuff on the bike. The bike runs great.

The petcock diaphragm on my friend's Suzuki failed recently, filled the entire engine with gasoline. I'd get the block off plate for sure.
