Default Shopping advice

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is kosher or not but I was wondering if you good folks could give me some advice on bike pricing.

I'm currently looking at a clean, 07 Nightster with 13,000 miles and a plethora of tasteful mods (apes, custom solo seat, adjustable rear shocks, sissy bar, tank lift, exhaust & air cleaner) - basically, all of the mods that I would spring for if I bought an un-molested Sporty. The bike is a one owner machine, clean title and the buyer is asking for $8500.

Do you guys think that's a fair price? Too high? Thanks!

the price is high, bike is 8 years old.. book retail is probably about $6k for it, but if it's exactly what you want then go for it. the trick is don't let the seller know that you really like the bike, then you can talk them down to a better price. if you let them whoel that you really want the bike then they are less likely to budge on price.

In my opinion when you find a bike that's modded exactly like you want it's certainly worth spending an extra $1,000 or so to get it,

many people disagree with me on this and then they end up spending $5,000 or mods that they could have gotten for $1000 on a used bike because they refused to pay over book value on a used bike.

I paid a little much for mine, but I counted up over 6k in mods on it and figured it was worth paying an extra $1500 for..

Yeah High....I paid $6200 for an 11 1200C 3900 miles with over $700 mods. But like anything it's worth what YOU want to pay. I would not take under $8500 for mine though so go figure...

Don't cross the bike off your list because the asking price is too high. Make a fair offer contingent on pre-purchase inspection, where you will likely find further opportunities to either back out or to renegotiate the price, based on needed maintenance/repairs.

It sounds like you are shopping at dealers, where you can expect to pay retail+. Better to do your own due diligence and buy at wholesale, directly from the owner. Always with the professional survey.

I like to use the NADA site to get a feel for the value (http://www.nadaguides.com/Motorcycles). Start the negotiating at the very lowest price and don't be afraid to walk away if the seller is not willing to work with you.

That bikes worth somewhere between 4 to 6k, depending on condition so the guy is dreaming. Eyeball CL, buy direct from owners and have patience you will find a deal you'll be proud of. U buying cash or finance, is the money or finance ready?
