on the spark plug topic, I went for a ride earlier in the season and all of a sudden my bike started sputtering and felt like it was going to die. I had to keep the thottle on in order for the bike not to die so I could pull off on the shoulder. Looked on the bike and noticed the plug was off of the spark plug. I've been reading around and looks like this is a common issue? I did a coil relocation and thought my leg bumped the plug off.
Recently, after a bit of riding, the bike sputters on 2nd gear and the check engine light goes on and off. I have to ease off of the throttle and its back to normal. could this be a result of a bad spark plug from the first incident ? I have a 2014 48 and have owned it for a year with about 3200 miles on it.
Is that NGK part number applicable for both carbureted and FI Sporty models, and both 883 and 1200 engine sizes? Just curious. Mine is a 2000 883, with the C/V carb. Thanks.
Check gap and clean the side electrode (wire brush) every 5K miles.
I leave the porcelain and center electrode alone.
Add a little anti seize to the plug threads and die electric grease to inner rubber plug cap/ boot.
OK to torque plugs at 12 lbs
In a stock F1 engines plugs tend to look good with no gap wear at 10K mileage.
Service manual says replace at 20K.
